How to Edit PowerClip Contents in CorelDRAW
This article explains how to access and use the Edit PowerClip mode in CorelDRAW to modify objects placed inside a container frame. You will learn the primary methods to enter this editing mode, how the workspace behaves while editing, and how to properly save your changes and exit back to the main document layout.
The PowerClip Editing Mode
In CorelDRAW, the mode used to modify objects enclosed within a container is called Edit PowerClip (often referred to simply as Edit Contents). When you activate this mode, CorelDRAW temporarily isolates the contents of the container, allowing you to manipulate, transform, recolor, or add elements inside the frame without altering the frame's boundary.
How to Enter Edit PowerClip Mode
There are three primary ways to enter Edit PowerClip mode:
- The Interactive PowerClip Toolbar: When you select a PowerClip object, a small floating toolbar appears near the object. Click the Edit PowerClip icon (represented by an object entering a frame) to enter the contents editing mode.
- The Context Menu: Right-click the PowerClip frame and select Edit PowerClip from the context menu.
- Keyboard and Mouse Shortcut: Hold down the Ctrl key and click directly inside the PowerClip frame. This immediately opens the container for editing.
Working Inside the Edit Mode
Once inside Edit PowerClip mode:
- The container boundary remains visible as a thin outline (often blue or grayed out depending on your workspace settings) to indicate the clipping borders.
- Elements located outside the clipping boundary are fully visible and editable during this session, helping you position contents accurately relative to the container edges.
- All standard CorelDRAW tools—such as the Pick tool, Shape tool, and Fill tool—function normally on the internal elements.
Exiting Edit PowerClip Mode
After you have made the necessary adjustments, you must exit the editing mode to apply the changes to your main design:
- Click the Finish Editing PowerClip button on the floating toolbar or at the top-left corner of the drawing window.
- Right-click inside the workspace and choose Finish Editing This Level.
- Hold down the Ctrl key and click on an empty space outside the PowerClip frame.
Quick Editing Alternative: Selecting Contents Directly
If you only need to make minor adjustments without entering the full Edit PowerClip mode, hold down the Alt key and click the PowerClip object. This selects the internal contents directly within the standard workspace, allowing you to move, scale, or rotate them while keeping the container intact.
