How to Create Angled Guidelines in CorelDRAW
Angled guidelines in CorelDRAW allow you to align objects, create perspective, and draft complex geometric layouts with precision. This guide covers how to set up, rotate, and manage angled guidelines using manual click-and-drag rotation, precise numerical angles via the Property Bar, and the Guidelines Docker/Inspector.
Method 1: Rotate an Existing Guideline Manually
- Pull a Guideline: Click on either the top or left ruler and drag a guideline onto your workspace.
- Select the Guideline: Click once on the guideline to select it. It will highlight in red (by default).
- Activate Rotation Handles: Click the guideline a second time. Rotation handles (two curved arrows) will appear along the guideline, along with a circular center of rotation.
- Rotate: Hover over one of the rotation handles until the cursor turns into a curved arrow, then click and drag to rotate the guideline to your desired angle.
- Move the Pivot Point (Optional): Drag the center-of-rotation marker to any specific snap point or object node to rotate the guide around that exact origin.
Method 2: Set Precise Angles Using the Property Bar
- Drag a guideline from the ruler onto your canvas.
- Click the guideline once to select it.
- Look at the Property Bar at the top of the screen.
- Locate the Angle of Rotation box (represented by an angle icon).
- Type your exact desired angle (e.g.,
45or-30) and press Enter. The guideline will automatically tilt to the specified degree.
Method 3: Use the Guidelines Docker / Inspector
- Open the docker by going to Window > Dockers > Guidelines (or Window > Inspectors > Guidelines on macOS).
- Select the Angled Guidelines category from the list or drop-down menu.
- Enter your desired Angle and the X/Y coordinates for where the guideline should pass through.
- Click Add to place the guideline onto the canvas.
Locking and Deleting Angled Guidelines
- To Lock: Right-click the angled guideline and select Lock to prevent accidental movement while designing.
- To Delete: Click the guideline to select it, then press the Delete key on your keyboard.
