How to Assign Shortcut Keys to CorelDRAW Macros

Assigning custom keyboard shortcuts to macro scripts in CorelDRAW allows you to automate repetitive tasks and execute complex scripts with a single keystroke. This guide walks you through the step-by-step process of accessing CorelDRAW’s customization workspace, locating your installed macros, assigning unique key combinations, and resolving shortcut conflicts to streamline your design workflow.

Step 1: Open the Customization Menu

Launch CorelDRAW and open any existing document or create a new blank file. Navigate to the top menu bar, click on Tools, and select Options. From the sub-menu or dialog window, select Customization. In newer versions of CorelDRAW, you can open this window directly by pressing Ctrl + J and selecting Customization from the left panel.

Step 2: Navigate to the Commands Section

  1. Inside the Customization window, select Commands from the menu tree on the left side.
  2. At the top of the Commands panel, click on the drop-down menu that currently displays a command category (such as "File" or "Edit").
  3. Scroll through the drop-down list and choose Macros. The list below will automatically refresh to display all VBA macros currently loaded in your CorelDRAW environment.

Step 3: Select Your Macro Script

Browse the list to find the specific macro you wish to control. Macros are typically organized by their project and module names (for example, MyProject.MyModule.MyMacro). Click on the target macro to highlight it.

Step 4: Assign the Shortcut Key

  1. With the macro selected, click on the Shortcut Keys tab located on the right side of the Commands panel.
  2. Click inside the input field labeled New Shortcut Key.
  3. On your keyboard, press the exact key combination you want to assign (for example, Ctrl + Shift + Q or Alt + 1). CorelDRAW will display the pressed keys in the box.
  4. Check the Currently assigned to field directly below. If the combination is already bound to another command, choose a different combination to avoid overriding essential software functions.
  5. Click the Assign button to lock in the key combination. The new shortcut will appear in the Current shortcut keys list.

Step 5: Save and Test

Click OK at the bottom of the dialog box to save your settings and exit. Return to your workspace and press the designated shortcut keys to ensure the macro executes properly.

If the macro does not run, reopen the Customization menu to verify that the script is still valid and that the shortcut assignment was properly saved to your current workspace profile.
