How to Apply Perspective to Vectors in CorelDRAW

Applying perspective to vector objects in CorelDRAW is an effective way to introduce depth, realism, and dynamic angles to flat artwork. This guide provides a straightforward, step-by-step process for using the built-in Perspective effect on individual shapes, grouped vectors, and text, allowing you to create both one-point and two-point perspective views directly on the canvas.

Step 1: Select the Object

Use the Pick tool to select the vector object, group of objects, or artistic text you want to alter. If you are working with multiple distinct shapes, group them together first by pressing Ctrl + G so the perspective applies uniformly across the entire design.

Step 2: Add the Perspective Effect

With the object selected, navigate to the top menu bar:

  1. Click Object.
  2. Hover over Perspective.
  3. Select Add Perspective.

(Note: In older versions of CorelDRAW, this option is located under Effects > Add Perspective).

Step 3: Manipulate the Perspective Grid

Once the effect is applied, a bounding box with a red-line grid and four corner control handles appears around the object.

  • Adjusting corners: Click and drag any of the corner handles to distort the shape and create depth.
  • Symmetrical movement: Hold Ctrl + Shift while dragging a corner handle to move two adjacent corners symmetrically in opposite directions.
  • Constrained movement: Hold Ctrl while dragging to constrain movement horizontally or vertically along the existing axes.

Step 4: Fine-Tune the Vanishing Points

As you move the corner handles, lines will project toward one or two vanishing points (marked with an X outside the object).

  • Drag the X markers to reposition the vanishing point and dramatically alter the viewing distance or angle.
  • Aligning handles toward a single point creates a one-point perspective, while angling both sides creates a two-point perspective.

Step 5: Finalizing, Editing, or Removing the Effect

  • Accept changes: Simply select the Pick tool and click anywhere off the object to apply the changes.
  • Edit again: Click the object with the Shape tool (F10) to bring back the perspective grid and adjust the corner handles.
  • Remove perspective: To revert to the original flat vector, select the object, go to Object > Perspective, and click Clear Perspective.
