How to Add Nodes to a Curve in CorelDRAW

Adding nodes to a curve in CorelDRAW allows you to modify paths, reshape vector objects, and gain precise control over your designs. This guide covers the quickest and most effective methods to insert individual or multiple nodes using the Shape tool, keyboard shortcuts, and the property bar.

Method 1: Double-Clicking with the Shape Tool

The fastest way to insert a single node anywhere along an existing path is by using the mouse directly on the curve:

  1. Select the curve object.
  2. Select the Shape tool from the toolbox on the left side of the workspace, or press F10.
  3. Hover your cursor over the exact spot on the curve outline where you want to add the node. The cursor will change to an arrow with an S-curve next to it.
  4. Double-click the path. A new node will appear immediately at that position.

Method 2: Using the Property Bar

If you prefer using interface buttons:

  1. Press F10 to activate the Shape tool.
  2. Click once on the curve outline where you want to place the new node. A small black point indicator will mark the location.
  3. Look at the Property Bar at the top of the screen.
  4. Click the Add nodes button (indicated by a plus sign + over a node icon).

Method 3: Using Keyboard Shortcuts

Keyboard shortcuts streamline repetitive editing tasks:

  1. Activate the Shape tool (F10).
  2. Click on the curve path to specify the placement point.
  3. Press the + key on your numeric keypad or press the Insert key on standard keyboards to create the node.

How to Add Multiple Nodes Simultaneously

To add nodes evenly across segments or between existing nodes:

  1. Select the Shape tool (F10).
  2. Drag a marquee selection box over two or more existing nodes, or hold Shift and click to select them.
  3. Click the Add nodes (+) button on the Property Bar.
  4. CorelDRAW will automatically insert a new node at the exact midpoint of each selected segment. Repeating this click will subdivide the segments further.
