Duplicate Objects with Step and Repeat in CorelDRAW
The Step and Repeat feature in CorelDRAW allows you to create multiple copies of an object with precise distance, offset, and direction controls in a single action. This guide covers how to access the Step and Repeat docker, configure spacing parameters, and duplicate elements accurately across your canvas for layout, patterning, or production design.
1. Open the Step and Repeat Docker
To begin, select the object you want to duplicate. Open the Step and Repeat control panel using either of the following methods:
- Go to the top menu and select Edit > Step and Repeat.
- Press the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + Shift + D (Windows) or Cmd + Shift + D (macOS).
The Step and Repeat docker (or inspector) will open on the right side of your workspace.
2. Set the Number of Copies
In the docker, locate the Number of copies input field. Enter the exact number of duplicates you want to create from the original object.
3. Configure Horizontal Settings
Under the Horizontal settings section, choose how the duplicates will be positioned along the X-axis:
- No offset: Keeps the duplicated objects in the same horizontal position as the original.
- Offset: Distances are measured from the reference point of the original object to the same reference point of the next copy. Enter the desired value in the Distance box, then select the direction (Left or Right).
- Spacing: Defines the exact empty gap between the edges of each object rather than measuring center-to-center. Set the gap distance and choose the direction.
4. Configure Vertical Settings
Under the Vertical settings section, define how duplicates behave along the Y-axis:
- No offset: Keeps the duplicated objects at the same vertical level.
- Offset: Measures the distance from anchor point to anchor point. Enter your value and choose whether the copies move Up or Down.
- Spacing: Sets the clear space between the top and bottom bounding edges of the objects. Enter the gap distance and direction.
5. Apply the Duplication
Once your settings are configured, click the Apply button at the bottom of the docker. CorelDRAW will immediately generate the specified number of copies based on your horizontal and vertical parameters.
To create a grid, run Step and Repeat horizontally first, select all generated objects together, and then apply Step and Repeat vertically.
