CorelDRAW Workspace Customization Options

CorelDRAW provides extensive workspace customization options that allow designers to modify the user interface to suit specific design workflows. Users can adjust everything from toolbars, dockers, and menus to keyboard shortcuts, UI themes, and document default settings, significantly boosting productivity and personal efficiency.

Preset Workspaces

CorelDRAW includes several built-in workspaces tailored to different user profiles and tasks:

  • Default: Designed for typical vector design, layout, and illustration tasks.
  • Lite: A simplified interface ideal for beginners or basic design needs.
  • Touch: Optimized for touchscreen and pen devices, featuring larger buttons and fluid navigation.
  • Illustration & Page Layout: Specialized setups with dockers and tools pre-positioned for digital drawing or multi-page document design.

Toolbars and Property Bars

Toolbars can be reorganized, hidden, or created from scratch:

  • Adding and Removing Buttons: Through the Options > Customization dialog, you can drag and drop commands directly onto any existing toolbar or remove redundant tools.
  • Custom Toolbars: You can create dedicated toolbars containing frequently used commands and position them anywhere across the screen.
  • Button Sizing and Appearance: Button icons can be set to small, medium, or large, and you can choose whether to display icons, text labels, or both.
  • Property Bar Tuning: The contextual Property Bar changes depending on the active tool, but its standard fields and commands can also be rearranged or trimmed down.

Dockers and Inspectors

Dockers (panels containing specialized tool settings) provide flexible organization:

  • Docking and Floating: Dockers can be anchored to the left or right side of the screen, grouped into tabs, or detached as floating windows on multi-monitor setups.
  • Collapsing and Hiding: To maximize canvas space, dockers can be minimized into thin tabs along the application edge and expanded only when clicked.

Keyboard Shortcuts

Custom key bindings speed up access to frequently used commands:

  • Custom Key Assignment: Any menu command, docker trigger, or tool can be mapped to a custom single-key or multi-key shortcut.
  • Conflict Resolution: If a newly assigned shortcut conflicts with an existing one, CorelDRAW highlights the conflict and allows you to overwrite it.
  • Shortcut Sheets: You can export your current shortcut configuration as a CSV or HTML table for reference.

UI Themes and Color Personalization

Users can alter the overall aesthetic of the application:

  • Theme Brightness: CorelDRAW offers Light, Medium, Dark, and Black UI themes to accommodate different lighting environments.
  • Accent Colors: Window borders, active tabs, and highlights can be modified to custom colors.
  • Desktop Canvas Color: The canvas surrounding the drawing page can be changed from standard white to neutral gray or custom hues to reduce eye strain.

Exporting and Sharing Workspaces

Once a workspace is customized, it can be saved, exported, and shared:

  • Exporting (.cdws): You can package custom tool configurations, layouts, and shortcuts into a single workspace file.
  • Importing: Custom workspaces can be transferred across multiple machines or distributed across design teams to ensure consistency.
