CorelDRAW Developer Tools Tab Options Explained
The Developer tools in CorelDRAW provide automation, customization, and advanced scripting environments directly within the application. Designed for graphic designers and developers alike, this toolbar or menu streamlines workflow by allowing users to record repetitive tasks, write custom macros, edit source code, and manage automation scripts using languages such as Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) and JavaScript.
Visual Basic Editor
The Visual Basic Editor option launches the integrated Microsoft
Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) development environment. Selecting
this tool opens an external window where users can write, inspect, and
debug custom code, create custom UserForms, and interact directly with
CorelDRAW's comprehensive Object Model. It is typically accessed via the
shortcut Alt + F11.
Record Macro
The Record Macro option enables users to capture on-screen actions sequentially without manually writing code. Clicking this command prompts for a macro name, target storage location (such as a specific document or global template), and an optional description. Once active, drawing operations, transformations, and formatting choices are automatically translated into executable script commands.
Record Temporary Macro
This tool functions similarly to standard macro recording but stores actions in a designated temporary slot. It is designed for short-lived, repetitive tasks during a single working session where long-term code storage or manual naming is unnecessary.
Pause Recording and Stop Recording
These controls govern active recording sessions:
- Pause Recording: Temporarily halts the capture of design actions, allowing the user to navigate or perform intermediate steps that should not be included in the final automation sequence.
- Stop Recording: Concludes the recording process and saves the captured steps into the designated VBA module or project.
Run Macro
The Run Macro command opens a dialog box that lists all available macros across active documents, global workspaces, and installed templates. From this menu, users can select a specific procedure, initiate its execution, or jump directly into its code within the editor.
Scripts Docker (Macro Manager)
In modern versions of CorelDRAW, the Scripts Docker (formerly known as the Macro Manager) acts as the central control hub for all automation. This docking panel organizes scripts by language and storage container, supporting:
- VBA Projects: Standard
.gms(Global Macro Storage) files and document-specific code modules. - CorelDRAW JavaScript Scripts: Modern cross-platform scripts executed via CorelDRAW's JavaScript API.
- File Management: Commands to load, unload, rename, and assign keyboard shortcuts directly to custom automated routines.
Visual Studio Tools for Applications (VSTA)
In supported editions, CorelDRAW includes VSTA options alongside standard VBA tools. This feature integrates with Microsoft Visual Studio, allowing developers to build robust add-ins, automations, and extensions using modern .NET languages such as C# and VB.NET.
