Copy Object Properties in CorelDRAW with Eyedropper

CorelDRAW provides a fast, efficient way to duplicate styling between design elements using the Attributes Eyedropper tool. This guide explains how to sample and transfer object properties—such as fill colors, outline widths, transparency, drop shadows, and text formatting—from a source object directly to one or more target objects to streamline your design workflow.

The Attributes Eyedropper Tool

CorelDRAW features two separate eyedropper tools: the Color Eyedropper (which only samples colors) and the Attributes Eyedropper (which samples styles, effects, and dimensions). To copy full properties, you must use the Attributes Eyedropper.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Select the Tool: In the toolbox on the left, click and hold the Eyedropper tool icon to open the flyout menu, then select the Attributes Eyedropper.
  2. Configure the Properties to Copy: Look at the Property Bar at the top of the workspace. Click the dropdown menus to check or uncheck the specific attributes you want to sample:
    • Outline: Line width, color, style, and end caps.
    • Fill: Uniform fills, fountain fills, vector patterns, and textures.
    • Text: Font, size, alignment, and spacing.
    • Effects: Drop shadows, contours, blends, extrusions, and distortions.
    • Transformations: Size, rotation, and position.
  3. Sample the Source Object: Move the eyedropper cursor over the object whose properties you want to copy and click once. The cursor automatically switches to an Apply Object Attributes icon (shaped like a paint bucket).
  4. Apply to the Target Object: Click on the destination object. CorelDRAW immediately transfers the selected properties to it.
  5. Apply to Multiple Objects: You can continue clicking other objects to apply the same properties without re-sampling.

Useful Shortcuts and Tips

  • Re-sampling: If you want to sample a different object without switching tools, click the Pick Up Attributes button on the Property Bar or hold Shift while clicking a new source object.
  • Partial Application: If you only want to copy an outline without changing an object's fill, ensure you deselect the Fill category on the Property Bar before clicking the source object.
