How to Export Photoshop Workspaces to Another Computer

Custom workspace layouts in Adobe Photoshop streamline your workflow by keeping your essential panels, toolbars, and menus organized to your preference. While Photoshop does not provide a single-click "Export Workspace" button inside the user interface, you can easily transfer your setups by manually moving the configuration files between computers. This guide explains how to save, locate, copy, and install your custom workspace files on any other system running Adobe Photoshop.

Step 1: Save Your Workspace in Photoshop

Before exporting, ensure your current layout is properly saved within Photoshop on your primary computer:

  1. Arrange your panels, menus, and tools as desired.
  2. Navigate to Window > Workspace > New Workspace...
  3. Enter a distinctive name for your layout.
  4. Check the options for Keyboard Shortcuts, Menus, and Toolbar if you wish to include these custom settings.
  5. Click Save.

Step 2: Locate the Workspace File on Your Source System

Photoshop stores workspace configurations in a designated directory on your local drive. Open your file manager and navigate to the appropriate path based on your operating system:

  • Windows:
    C:\Users\[Your Username]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop [Version]\Adobe Photoshop [Version] Settings\WorkSpaces
(Note: The AppData folder is hidden by default. Enable "Hidden items" in Windows File Explorer view settings if you cannot see it.)

  • macOS:
    Users/[Your Username]/Library/Preferences/Adobe Photoshop [Version] Settings/WorkSpaces
(Note: The user Library folder is hidden. In Finder, hold the Option key and click the Go menu to access it.)

Inside the WorkSpaces folder, locate the file named after your custom workspace.

Step 3: Copy the Workspace File

Copy your custom workspace file to a portable storage device, such as a USB drive, or transfer it to the target computer via cloud storage or local network file sharing.

Step 4: Install the Workspace on the Target Computer

To install the layout on the second computer:

  1. Ensure Adobe Photoshop is closed on the target system.
  2. Navigate to the same file path on the new machine:
    • Windows: C:\Users\[Your Username]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop [Version]\Adobe Photoshop [Version] Settings\WorkSpaces
    • macOS: Users/[Your Username]/Library/Preferences/Adobe Photoshop [Version] Settings/WorkSpaces
  3. Paste your custom workspace file directly into the WorkSpaces folder.

Step 5: Activate the Workspace

  1. Launch Adobe Photoshop on the target computer.
  2. Go to Window > Workspace.
  3. Select your imported workspace from the list to apply your custom interface layout immediately.
